Lead Application Developer | Westfield Group | Westfield Center, OH

Lead Application Developer

Westfield Group is seeking a Lead Application Developer for our Westfield Center, OH home office to work in both a project team and production support environment, delivering package-based and custom-developed automated business solutions to customers. The Developer will work with some of the latest concepts in application architecture and will use standard processes to determine technical design, develop and test code and document and implement software solutions at the application level. This individual will eventually provide leadership to the Application Developers at the sub-project or project levels. Responsibilities for the Developer also include scheduling and facilitating quality assurance functions including walkthroughs of the system, the application, the coding, the validation of test procedures and the verification of test results against acceptance criteria.

The ideal candidate will have experience and in-depth knowledge of business applications, systems analysis skills and computer operations. The Developer must be skilled in leading and mentoring others in a technical environment, as well as coordinating medium to large projects or initiatives. This individual must have at least three years of Java/J2EE and application development experience, as well as demonstrated leadership in past IT assignments. Must also have at least 3-5 years of experience in object-oriented analysis and design. WebSphere, Hibernate and Web Services experience would be a plus. In addition to Team Lead experience, the ideal candidate must be capable of leveraging experience in technical areas to assist others in meeting their objectives, as well as working in a team environment focused on the delivery of complex, critical software applications using Java-based, J2EE technology. The Developer must be able to travel as required and respond to emergency service calls at any time outside of normally assigned work hours. In the past, the need for travel and the number of emergency calls have been minimal. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills are a must.

Required: - Bachelor's Degree (preferred in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or other related field) or at least six (6) years of equivalent work experience. - Strong programming aptitude - In-depth knowledge of business applications, systems analysis skills, computer operations. - Proficient oral, written and interpersonal skills. - Skilled in leading and mentoring others in a technical environment. - Skilled at coordinating medium to large projects or initiatives Preferred: - Minimum 3-5 years of expereince with OOA/OOD - Vendor management experience - Minimum 3-5 years of experience with Java and J2EE - Experience with Web Services (SOAP), Hibernate/JDBC, Messaging (JMS), and Insurance Application Architecture (IAA) - Experience with Struts, JSP, JSF, XML, Ajax, and XSLT - Experience with SQL and the DB2 RDBMS - Experience with portal and portlet development - Experience with RUP - Capable of demonstrating leadership by managing and measuring work and directing others - Excellent organizational and time management skills - Excellent oral and written communication skills - Capable of working independently - Committed to skill development and continuous improvement - Project management experience - Quality assurance experience
